Mr. Mohamed Mauroof Jameel is an architect, artist, and heritage scholar with over 30 years of experience of private practice, teaching, management, and governance. He has previously served in the government for over 19 years, most notably as the Minister of Construction, Public Works and Infrastructure. He is best known for being among those who pioneered the development of Hulhumalé, HDC, and HDFC, as well as his contributions to the construction, infrastructure, and housing sectors.
Mr. Mauroof is internationally recognized for his scholarly work, and is considered an authority on coral stone architecture. He has published scholarly articles and books on the coral stone mosques of Maldives and Dhivehi resort architecture, and has held and participated in a number of exhibitions, including the Sidney Biennale 2024. He has collaborated with the World Monument Fund, Universiti Malaya, and the UNESCO World Heritage Centre on conserving the built heritage of Maldives.
